Review: Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic

G'day folks!

Never before in the history of gaming has a game originating from a set of movies ever taken such popularity to this height before. Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic or KOTOR for short first released in 2003 with the larger fan base of Star Wars eagarly expecting this title to drop and when it did, it was praised with love, effection and became an instant classic with both gamers and Bioware.

When released, KOTOR had some of the best graphics to date, especially with the new engine that Bioware had been working on at the time. While the quality of the sound effects do suffer slightly even during early release, what was brilliant was the diverse voice acting. The game had over 300 sound effects, including vocals. What really made this game stand out was the excellent gameplay technique which by now is used in many games worldwide and the creative and unique storyline.
For those too young to remember the game, KOTOR starts 4'000 years before the rise of the Galatic Empire (Star Wars IV), starting out on a Republic ship under fire. You play as an unnamed protagonist (to which you name at the start of the game) and told to be a Republic soldier. However, as the game progresses, you may choose to follow the light side or dark side, becoming more effective as you gain the Jedi Abilities. (Despite being out for nearly 10 years, I will tell no spoilers)

Replaying this game was a delight for this old gamer and I highly suggest it to any gamer who enjoys a long and enjoyable storyline. KOTOR may be slightly on the older side but this game definitely deserves the attention of the average gamer.

Out of 10, I gave Knights of the Old Republic an 9/10

Review Delay...Again!

Howdy folks!

Just a quick update with the goings on with good ol' Fatman.

I'm sad to report that my reviews planned for this week have been pushed back slightly due to work timing issues. This was an unforseen incident and hopefully will not be happening soon. To compensate, I have ordered Sniper Elite V2 for a review and that should be arriving very soon. Also, a few more gameplay videos of The Force Unleashed will be released both tomorrow and Wednesday.
My reviews for Knights of the Old Republic will be coming sometime this week.

Lastly, I have recently purchased Max Payne 3 and working through it as quickly as I can, so that review shall be done within the next few weeks.

Sorry for the setback folks but things like these can't be avoided.
Thanks for understanding, have fun and game on!

Review: Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition

Howdy folks!

One of the most popular games of this age of gaming, Minecraft has made the move from PC to the Xbox 360 with the release of the 1.6 version now available.
Now one of the largest game franchises in history and now offically the fastest selling game on day 1 of release, Minecraft's community is split in half from this move from Mojang as gamers are diverse in both the pros and cons of both the Xbox 360 Edition and the original PC game.

Firstly, what most gamers will notice the difference in controls of setting. Items are much more costly to gather, from wood to diamond, what makes it a challenge is now the deadliness of the monsters that surround you. With surround sound, monsters can be miles away but sound as if they're right next to you. What's noticible is the main three enemies: Creepers, Zombies and Skeletons. Creeper's explosions are now more controlled and smaller, Zombies tend to travel straight instead of navagating, if possible, and the Skeletons have much better aim this time around and depending on difficulty, the arrows can be very deadly in force.
The hunger bar has been taken away completely and health is the main point of focus as it deteriorates much faster. Some tools and items have been taken away, such as the shears. Sheep wool and vines can now be harvested by one simple hit with any weapon or tool. Musical score hasn't been changed expect for the one change that they play constantly. In the PC version it comes and goes but the Xbox 360 version has track after track playing. While great and diverse, over long periods of gameplay, it can get a bit repeditive.

But other than the singleplayer gameplay, what truly makes this game great is the multiplayer.

Playing with friends in a world that you can create to your whim is nothing short of the work of a genious. Up to 8 friends can join you midgame and create a world that can be utterly brilliant or just violent and destructive!
Splitscreen has become a dying gameplay style, but up to four people can play together in the same world splitscreen, which brings the friends to your yard all the more easier.

While the game has many modifications, tune-ups and all the more DLC on the way, many fans and gamers cannot deny that Minecraft won't be going away just yet. Will there ever be a Minecraft 2? Will more enemies be added from Modifications? Only time will tell.

Out of 10, I gave Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition an 9.5/10

Good points
+Smooth gameplay
+Refined blocks and equipment.
+ Multiplayer = Work of genious
+A creative world at your fingertips.

Bad points
-Achievements are ridiculously easy
-Kinect helps only a little....

Review: Trials Evolution

G'day there folks!

With the original on both the PC and Arcade being an instant hit, it was only a matter of time before another Trials would come our way and now with Trials Evolution, gamers worldwide are making a return to the former best selling Arcade title.

As with the original, Trials Evolution makes a return to the newly reformed 3D side scroller but now with variety. Firstly, gamers can notice how camera angles now affect how gameplay looks, plays and feels in a controller. This new feature comes great with one of the new controls in the hands of gamers, as creating trakcs become more diverse than ever. Players can now choose where to place their starting points of maps in different and diverse areas, as the power of imagination can create the most insane maps and some of the more clever ones.
Audio is as great as it was before, with sound effects truly brilliant and the musical score being much more ampted up than before. Graphics, to some dissapointed, have all but stayed the same with only some points being addressed and prettied up with better texture, colouring and lighting.
Multiplayer is much of the same, with a slight dissapointment of the continuig issues with connectivity. During mid race, a match may slow or stop and cause glitches in-game until either the match is over for the host or a player is dropped from the session.

Singleplayer is much more diverse this time around; with heavy customisation to both character and bike right from colour to which parts to use, diverse choices and originality in each track, singleplayer has become much more enjoyable. One of those only issues is the License unlocks: while playing you unlock medals and a certain amount is needed to unlock more tracks, parts, ect.
These become more of a chore than fun gameplay but is slightly made up for with the extra challenges to make quick cash or medals, such as flight distance, low fuel travel and more.

With levels modelling some of recent history's famous games such as COD and Limbo, Trials Evolution has definitely evolved from is predecesor but has a long way to go to keep its foot on the peddal and avoid the repeditive gameplay Arcade sequels are famous for.

Out of 10, I gave Trials Evolution an 8/10

Good points
+Creative tracks
+Brilliant customisation
+Create Tracks an excellent feature

Bad points
-Slightly irritating medal collecting
-Physics do have the hiccup now and then

Slight Delay on Reviews

G'day folks!

Sad bit of an update for you here folks. Good ol' Fatman has bitten off a bit more than he can chew.
Since trying to upload a 26min new walkthrough video while editing and writing new episodes and still trying to find more time to play the games I need to review, film the videos I need to and have a small bit of sleep is a bit hard. I went to bed at 7am after the new episode failed to work.
So....yeah! Sorry folks.
Fatman's Gaming Tips will be coming out next week as normal and hopefully with the new gameplay too. Trials Evolution will be coming out tomorrow or Saturday by the latest, as will Knights of the Old Republic, which I finally managed to finished.

Sorry for the setback folks, I'll finish my work when I can.
Game on!

Fatman Updates #3

G'day there folks! Well, I should be saying evening!

Just a few notes to let you guys in on the happenings with me!
Firstly, I'd just like to announce that a fair few games are on the way for me to review! Such games, both recent and old are:
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
Dead Space
Bloodforge
Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition
Trials Evolution (Coming out tomorrow!)

And a few more!

Secondly, I know gameplay videos haven't been appearing for a little while and the reason for that being some flagging issues. I'll try to upload another The Force Unleashed video but there seems to be a few issues with it.

Alrighty, that's enough from me.  Thanks for all the support folks!
Take care, have fun and game on!

Competition Shirt design

Howdy folks!

Now, for those who don't know, I recently said that I will be  holding another competition this year if I get 40+ subs on my Youtube page. So I'm gonna mix it up a bit.
If I can get to 40+subs on Youtube, or 8'000 views here before the release date for Assassins Creed 3 (October 31st) I'll create three shirts and give them away for both subs, watchers and friends to go for!

The picture below is the design; its simple yet it gets to the point. More complex designs will be coming if this becomes popular.
Thanks!

Review: Prototype 2

G'day there folks!

With a growing fanbase and cosplayers now having insane fun with their new protagonist, Prototype 2 is definitely setting itself aside in gaming history as a well known game amongst the community.

Prototype 2 takes you out of the morphed shoes of Alex Mercer and into the Combat Boots of James Heller, a Sergeant in the military. While serving overseas, Mercer and the virus (Now dubbed "The Mercer Virus") is destroying New York and after taking a pleading phone call from his wife, returns home to find his wife dead and his daughter missing. And one simple patrol later, Heller is left in the street as Alex has infected him with the virus. And what a mistake that becomes.
As I began the story, I noticed the gameplay and the controls haven't changed dramatically and this places many fans of the game directly back in the old seat. Combat, while slightly modified, has become ever more destructive. While retaining most of the old abilities from the first game, many different fighting styles can be achieved with the ability to have two types of abilities at once (For example; the Claws along with the Whipfist, Hammerfists with Blade ect)
This does come in handy with larger opponents and espeically at a final kill strike. What truly defines this gameplay is the leveling system. Playing a game with a brand new protagonist on a sequel is a unique style that is left to few games (For example, Assassin's Creed 2, Bioshock 2, FEAR 2 ect) and what makes the leveling system brilliant is the composure of it all. While indeed, you do start out quite weak, the key to unlocking many of your hidden talents is searching for Free Roam World items such as Blackboxes, Lairs, Defence areas and so on. Doing so will boost your experience and also open side missions for you to unlock custom abilities such as 25% increase of health, more powerful attacks and even more. While the game starts out small, it is not overly difficult (even on Hard mode) nor overly frustrating, as the game gives tips in order to achieve your goals.

Other noteworthy facts of the game is the graphic and sound effect design; it seems Activision and Radical took into account from the low budget original and up'ed the anty for the sequel with extreme colouring (Cut scenes mostly being black and white), gorgeous scenery and extremely detailed facial movements within smaller gameplay moments.
What really stands out above the crowd is the voice acting. Heller (Voiced by Cornell Womack) brings a significant voice acting to the role. While sometimes overpowing and slightly melodramatic, the role of loosing everything he held precious allows you to overlook this fact. Mercer (Now voiced by Darryl Kurylo) brings the needed coolness to the role, while bringing about quite a great amount of emotional trauma that bubbles underneath the surface. Dana Mercer (Voice by Lake Bell) truly brings much needed light to the dark of the game with a captivating performance.

However the only issues mostly noticible is parts of the gameplay. While working your way through the campaign, some parts require you to unlock specific side missions. While these side missions take only short amounts of time, they have only four different types of side missions: Hunt and Consume, Defence, Time Run and Infiltrate. After a period of time playing the game, these missions do get repetitive.

Overall, the campaign is a delight, the ending quite decent and the entire game quite fantastic. For a game to start from the ground up, Prototype 2 is definitely worthy to have a place on your shelf. With the game having a conclusive ending, only time will tell if Prototype 3 is on the cards.

Out of 10, I gave Prototype 2 an 9.5/10

Good Points
+Brilliant gameplay/storyline/voice acting
+New style of gruesome death!
+Protagonist turn Antagonist? Nice!
+Different view to the infection of New York.

Bad Points
+Storyline could have been slightly longer....
+Side missions get repetitive.

Prototype 2 is out now for the average price of $88
